The Marketing Mix
by Doug Engel
As a marketing professional, I feel it is important to be able to offer my clients access to whatever various types of marketing will work best for them depending on the various goals they are trying to achieve. To that end, I do my best to keep up on the newest marketing trends such as social media. However, I find it is easy to get distracted by the newest “shiny object” whether it be SEO, Adwords, or social media. Although all of these more recent forms of advertising have value, I also think it is important to remember that more traditional forms of marketing still work well and that, just because something is new, doesn’t mean it is the best option to achieve a specific marketing goal.
While I believe it is important to embrace the future, I also believe we shouldn’t discard the proven methods of the past. The best solution may be a combination of “old school” and “new school” ideas. As a marketing professional, it is my job to figure out what type of marketing mix works best for the client and the particular goals they are trying to achieve. Whether it is immediately profitable for me or not, I’m interested in building long term relationships and helping my clients achieve success. The rest will take care of itself.
