The Voice Era of Content Creation

Youtube tutorials, Tik Tok, and Instagram reels have recently shown us the power of video, but is video our only go-to for content creation? 

What is ClubHouse?

Clubhouse is an audio based social media platform that arrived to make content creation easier. It launched in March 2020 and is still in its beta stage. Clubhouse is growing fast and is appealing to users across many fields. The increased engagement at this early stage may be due to its exclusivity. It incorporates chat rooms on a variety of topics and has A-list members such as Oprah, Mark Cuban, DeRay McKesson, and Jared Leto. 

It’s popularity has risen due to its sense of “elite” membership. ClubHouse is invite-only, meaning that only an inside member can invite you to access the app. Say goodbye to the blue checkmark! Unlike Instagram, Clubhouse has no verified accounts. Lastly, there is no option to record sessions, so the conversations are not saved on the app. The company describes itself as “a new type of social product based on voice [that] allows people everywhere to talk, tell stories, develop ideas, deepen friendships, and meet interesting new people around the world.”

About The App

  • Room: A room is the place where the moderator is the host of the conversation 
  • Moderator: The room owner or moderator is in charge of granting speaking access to room members.
  • Hallway: The main page where you can see the rooms created
  • The Stage. If you raise your hand and are selected to speak, you “take the stage” and ask questions. 

Voice-Content Take Over 

In the last few years, content creation has become very video heavy and video is not always cheap. Tools such as ring lights, audio systems, and editing software are just some of the expenses needed to produce quality video content. There are budget friendly options out there, but what would make this process easier? Being able to focus on one of the key elements: audio.

With Clubhouse making its way into content creation, users can now join live conversations without any video or typing required. An appealing element to users is that they don’t have to be on their phone or tablet screens to participate in conversations. The Clubhouse app gives you the freedom to move away from your phone while still engaging with other users. Similar to podcasts, Clubhouse’s reduced screen time is also a plus. 

Will this app begin a new wave of voice content creation? Only time will tell.
