We live, work and play in this region, but many of us may not even realize that our own gulf coast communities of St. Pete and Clearwater are the number one American tourism destination on the Gulf of Mexico, drawing over 15 million visitors each year. Most of us never even see the marketing that takes place to give us that distinction because we live right here!

Join us for our September keynote luncheon as David Downing, President and CEO of Visit St. Pete Clearwater, gives us a rare glimpse into how our area’s own crown jewels are being marketed to the rest of the country and the world. David will discuss many new initiatives and share how VSPC is leveraging their work with international brands, maximizing social engagement and employing cutting-edge digital measurement tools to gauge effectiveness of their efforts and collect visitor data on a scale the destination has never seen.

David Downing is the President & CEO of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, which is the official Destination Marketing Organization for Pinellas County, the most popular destination on America’s Gulf Coast. Downing oversees some 50 full-time in-house staff, along with international sales and PR representation in the United Kingdom, Central Europe, Latin America and China and an annual operating budget of more than $29 million. He has helped lead Visit St. Pete/Clearwater into record-breaking Tourist Development Tax collections. He is a member of U.S. Travel Association’s Board of Directors. Before joining Visit St. Pete/Clearwater in 2007, he worked in tourism marketing and publishing in New York City for more than a decade, first with Fodor’s/Random House and then at Zagat Survey.
